So where is the Unitarian Church Hall?

So, tomorrow doors open at 12 noon.  The fairy lights will be up, the mulled cider on, mince pies at the ready and the makers will be waiting to greet you with all their wonderful work they have made especially for you.  So venture down to Victoria St, off Christ's Pieces and look for the fairy lights.  The Hall is behind the Unitarian Church that faces onto Emmanuel Road.

Victoria St is situated between equal distances between Grand Arcade, Park Street Queen Anne and Grafton Centre west. Otherwise, cycle or walk - it's going to be a nice day tomorrow:-)

Doors close on Cambridge Christmas 2014 at 8.30pm.

The distinctive style of Alison Hullyer Illustration

Alison Hullyer has been exhibiting at Cambridge Christmas for several years now. She has been working hard on a new range of decorations ready for the Cambridge Christmas show on 24 November 2014.

Alison's decorations are limited edition only so once they have sold you will have to wait another year for her next collection. (A tip - they sell out every year so get there when doors open at 12 noon!)

Rhiannon Thomas and her ark...

Rhiannon Thomas, manager of the 2014 Cambridge Christmas is hard at work creating new wire work for her forthcoming shows.

Here is one of her elephants. We can't wait to see what else comes out of the ark at the Cambridge Christmas show on 24 November.

Rhiannon sells her work through Cambridge Contemporary Art.

Roxana's Exhibition in St.Ives

If you are visiting St Ives in Cambridgeshire, be sure to call in at the new café called Tom's Cakes on Market Hill.  Not only will you see a feast of gorgeous cakes and sample delicious coffee, but you can see a fabulous collection of Roxana's paintings on the wall.

Roxana starts on a brand new venture this year, an MA in Children's Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University.  We wish her every success with the course and look forward to seeing her new work.

Prize winners

The students at Cambridge Regional College devised a raffle for the evening and the exhibitors of the Cambridge Christmas show donated items for it. Rachel Dormor and Bek Genery drew the winners last week and here they are!

Organiser Jo Tunmer - photo taken by Ida Huntic

We had another amazing show on Monday 25 November 2013.  693 visitors, 16 exhibitors, and Anne Prince from independent-Cambridge and 10 students from Cambridge Regional College who were using the event for a case study for their second year exams.

We opened at the earlier time of 1 pm and all the customers seemed to be in favour of this as it gave them longer time to browse the lovely items on sale.  The photographer Ida Huntic took some great photos of the show and the illustrator Aurora Cacciapuoti came and sat amongst the crowds and sketched.  More of their work will follow in the next week or so.

Rachel has been making pots on the potter’s wheel since she was 14. She makes a range of finely thrown porcelain tableware in simple, elegant shapes. New pieces this year include bowls and large porcelain dishes and vases decorated with platinum line drawings.

All work is glazed in either retro blue, white or pale green and fired to a high temperature for increased durability. Everything is stamped with a discreet potters mark which is listed in British Studio Potters Marks. Rachel will be at the Cambridge Christmas show on 25 November. Come along and meet her.

Ruth Schmid - QHERE

When I discovered these innovative bags from Ruth Schmid and QHERE I just fell in love with them.  Living and working in Cambridge I am inspired by her use of worn-out bicycle inner tubes. They are surprisingly soft and with the added use of colour they are the must-have item in town this season. Come along on 26 November to meet her and see her designs for yourself.

Photos from the show last night...

With nearly 600 people through the doors, the evening buzzed and hummed from 4 to 9 pm last night.  We are always "lighting-challenged" during these events, and this time we did have several heart-stopping moments during the three-hour set up, but all lit up just in time for the kick-off.

Jo was at the door to meet and greet. With Motown music and a constant supply of mulled cider and home-made mince pies by Amanda MacPhail, she was kept warm for the duration of the night.

On entering the hall visitors were met with a visual feast of quality work from the seventeen exhibitors as well as the aroma of mulled cider.  Last year we coped with freezing, icy weather - this year everyone was taking their coats off because it was so warm.

Here are a few photos from the evening.
